This course is recommended for:

This course is suitable for all those who are required to provide first aid cover for work at height tasks, to enable the participants to support and care for others and to provide ongoing care to an ill or injured casualty, while waiting for professional emergency teams to arrive.

Course Details:

  • Duration: 2 days if a first aid certificate is already held
  • Duration: 3 days where no first aid certificate is held
  • Trainer to delegate ratio: 1:6
  • Assessment: Written and practical
  • Certification: Valid for 3 years

Prerequisites:

  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • A good understanding of the English language
  • Delegates must be physically fit and able to engage in climbing
  • A self-certified statement of fitness will be required to take part

Theory:

Understand the role of the first aider, including reference to:

  • Risks and hazards of first aid for work at height
  • DRCABC primary survey
  • The importance of preventing cross infection.
  • The need for recording incidents and actions
  • Use of available equipment
  • Assess the situation and circumstances to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
  • Provide appropriate first aid for minor and serious injuries

Practical:

  • Scenario-based exercises
  • Administer basic life support including AED
  • Administer first aid for major bleeding
  • Administer first aid for fractures and dislocations
  • Administer first aid to casualties with suspected spinal injury
  • Administer first aid for potential suspension syncope
