This course is recommended for:

This course covers the theoretical work at height and practical use of fall protection and fall arrest equipment. This course is for personnel who are required to work at height, where they are required to install and attach to safety systems or climb structures.

Course Details:

  • Assessment: Written and practical
  • Certification: Valid for 3 years
  • Practical elements can be tailored to individual needs

Prerequisites:

  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • A good understanding of the English language
  • Delegates must be physically fit and able to engage in climbing
  • A self-certified statement of fitness will be required to take part

Theory:

  • Legislation and legal responsibilities
  • Principles of fall protection and the hierarchy of controls
  • What restraint, fall arrest and work positioning systems are, their components, uses and limitations
  • How to identify a safe place of work and safe system of work at height
  • The importance of inspection, care and maintenance of fall protection equipment
  • How a harness should be worn and checked before use and items of personal fall protection attached to it.

Practical:

  • Pre-use check of personal fall protection equipment (harness and lanyards)
  • Correct donning and adjustment of a harness.
  • Use of ladder fall arrest safety systems
  • Use of self-retracting lifelines (SRL)
  • Use of restraint, fall arrest and work positioning lanyards
  • Anchor point selection
  • Use of temporary anchors
